The traditional Indian systems of health sciences of Ayurveda and Siddha provide a holistic method of treatment of human health. These bodies of knowledge, through their time-tested wisdom, are a repository of a large number of pharmacopoeia for treating human ailments and illnesses. With minimal or no side-effects and long term benefits, the relevance of these medicines, is more pronounced now than ever in the highly complex modern life and its impact on the human health.
Lakshmi Seva Sangham, a sister concern of Gandhigram Trust, was started in 1977 with the aim of taking natural medicine to the masses and improve their standard of living. Under the genius guidance of Dr. Y Kondal Rao, the founder of Indian Medical Practitioners Co-op Pharmacy and Stores, Adayar, Chennai, the initiative of Padmashree V Padmanabhan, a veteran Gandhian V Krishnamoorthy, and Dr. Kondal Rao, an educationist, the Siddha and Ayurveda medicines manufacturing unit was set up in 1980.
Initially started with about 17 preparations, our Siddha & Ayurvedic drug manufacturing unit today produces 240 preparations with herbs and medicinal plants collected by traditional herb collectors. The processing is done under hygienic conditions with strict quality control systems monitored by qualified doctors and technicians. The unit provides employment to rural women in the processing, packaging and marketing of the medicine, particularly to the economically weaker sections of the society, widows and handicapped women.
The unit was awarded a Good Manufacturing Practice Certificate from Government of Tamil Nadu. It has also obtained ISO 9001:2015 certifications for the scope of our activities. Both raw materials and finished products are tested for quality standards at our well equipped quality control laboratory.
SELECT LIST OF PRODUCTS AND THEIR USES:
Churnams – Collected Herbals are cleaned and grinded as Fine powders namely Aswagantha Churnam, Triphala Churnam, Amukkara Churnam etc. which was widely used in treating Vata disorders.
Kwatha Churnams – Decoction powders such as Nilavembu Kudineer etc used in all kinds of fevers, flu.
Tablets – Pills made with the help of powders namely Mahayogaraja Guggulu, Chandraprabhavati, Asokadi vati etc. widely used in many Rheumatic & Uterine related issues.
Lehyam – Semisolid/Jam/Malt like preparation made of Jaggery, Palmsugar, Sugar Candy namely Mathana Kameswara Lehyam, Sathavari Lehyam, Kumari Lehyam etc useful for all kinds of male & female infertility problems.Tailams – Medicated oils prepared with herbs namely Pindatailam (Arthritis), Neelibringadi Tailam (Hair Toner), Karappan Tailam (Skin problems) Gulkhand, Omawater, Karappan Tailam (Skin problems),
Gulkhand, Omawater, Kunkumathi Lepam.
