Lakshmi College of Education
Creating a new cadre of teachers for tomorrow
The Lakshmi College of Education was established in 1967 with the vision of ‘Developing Professionally Devoted, Socially Committed, Ethically Upright, Rurally Oriented and Physically Sound Teachers’. The College was named after Dr. T. S. Soundaram’s mother, Lakshmi Ammal and it was officially inaugurated by BG Kher, the Chief Minister of the erstwhile Composite Bombay State, with the motto “Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram (which can be interpreted as “God is Truth and Truth is Beautiful”).
The College offers B. Ed, M. Phil and Ph. D programs to teachers. While we focussed the teaching methodology by imparting well-rounded education to teacher-students through our programs, we also realised the importance of developing professionally competent, self-actualized teachers with commitment to Gandhian values.
The College is co-educational and the approved annual intake of students is 50. The students are admitted in the two year B. Ed Course through single window counselling system, conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Since July 2008, the College has come under the purview of Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University (TNTEU). The College has been affiliated to the university and the degrees are also conferred by the University.
The teachers who acquire their degrees from the college are able to meet the requirements of secondary and higher secondary schools in rural areas. Emphasis is placed on training the graduates in Mathematics, English, Physical, Biological and Home Sciences to enable them to work in these schools.
Developing professionally devoted, socially committed, ethically upright, rurally oriented and physically sound teachers!
